Synopsis of study
After work experience during the summer with Sketchbook magazine I established a contact with the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Wafa Al Obaidat who talked about possibly collaborating in the future on a sister magazine.  Sketchbook magazine is a quarterly that showcases established and emerging creative talents in fashion, design and culture with a focus on features, photography and illustration. Following market research I aim to find where there is a gap in the print media market and establish a target market.  I intend on collaborating with many individuals within the creative industry from writers to stylist and designers.
For this project I aim to fully research and develop the concept of a Teen Magazine that I will launch under the Sketchbook Magazine brand.  This will be my concept and I will aim to spend this project understanding my market and how I will put together the concept of the magazine.  I will use my existing contacts and the advice of my mentor Wafa to look into my market and research into what will make my market purchase my product.  I need to look at collecting primary and secondary research as well as qualitative and quantitative information.  Research and development is a vital part of this project as it is important so that when I establish the actual product in the market it will be successful.
I would like to establish all the contributors and artists so when I undertake my major project I just have to call together these people to create the content so it can be launched in the market place.  I would like to create a team for my magazine with different people responsible for the different positions.  My role will be the editor-in-chief of the magazine where I will have full control over the content, layout and themes. The content will be produced by a range of different contributors who are creative individuals that want to have an entrance into the industry.  The reason I want to do this as I see my specialism in Journalism and would like to continue this when I finish studying.  This will also give me the opportunity to have full creative control over a bigger product that could develop further.  I find that collaboration is very important so it will be vital for me liaise with many people which will also help me to establish more contacts within the industry for later projects.
The concept of the magazine exhorts originality, as there is a clear gap in the market for a magazine that targets the teen demographic.  Fusing illustration with the conceptual idea of targeting the teen audience provides a clear rationale for its development.
